The Province of Ravenna is located in the North-East of Italy, in the Emilia-Romagna Region. It counts more than 350.000 inhabitants distributed in 19 Municipalities characterised by outstanding and diversified landscape, from the hilly inland up to the plain coastal area.
In Ravenna is located one of the major Italian ports. Thanks to its strategic position, it is very important for the Mediterranean traffics. Lately the passenger traffic has considerably increased thanks to the creation of a passenger terminal which counts about 100.000 tourists per year. The port is a gateway for the city of Ravenna, the coastal touristic area, the Po Delta Park, the Ferrara and Romagana area, up to San Marino.
The Province of Ravenna has a wide experience in the field of cooperation, management of projects financed by Structural Funds projects on sustainable development. It participated in more than 20 cooperation projects during last programming (INTERREG, LIFE, Cultura 2000, Leonardo, etc.), and the same amount only counting those projects in the framework of the Objective European Territorial Cooperation 2007-2013, tackling the issues of sustainable mobility, sustainable tourism, environment preservation, renewable energy, sustainable buildings, health (financed by Central Europe Programme, IPA-Adriatic Programme, Italia-Slovenia Programme, South East Europe Programme, Mediterranean Programme, INTERREG IVC).
