The Port of Split, Croatia, located in the centre of the future Adriatic and Ionian macro-region, is the busiest passenger port in Croatia and in the Adriatic Sea, and is among the busiest in the EU. Passenger traffic increased to 4,421,568 passengers in 2013 from 4,253,135 in 2012, an increase of 4 percent. Total cargo traffic through the Port of Split in 2013 reached 3.1 million tonnes compared to 2.8 million tonnes in 2012, an increase of 10 percent.
There are six port basins of the Port of Split. The City Port Basin is designated for the passenger traffic and freight lorries carried by ferries. The Vranjic-Solin Basin is designated for cargo ships. Kaštela A, B and C Basins are cargo basins designated for the needs of the industry. The Kaštela D Basin is designated for the transfer of passengers from the Split Airport.
